Procedure
Methyl (2-chloro-5-fluoropyridin-3-yl)(methyl)carbamate (intermediate 37, 0.343 g, 1.569 mmol), tert-butyl(trans-3-aminocyclobutyl)carbamate (0.292 g, 1.569 mmol), BrettPhos Precatalyst (0.125 g, 0.157 mmol), and sodium tert-butoxide (0.377 g, 3.92 mmol) were mixed in 1,4-dioxane (2 mL) under an argon atmosphere. The reaction mixture was heated to 50° C. and stirred for 30 min. The reaction mixture was diluted with water and extracted once with EtOAc. The organic layer was separated, washed with saturated aqueous sodium chloride, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The resulting crude product was purified by silica gel column chromatography eluting with EtOAc in hexanes to yield tert-butyl(trans-3-(6-fluoro-1-methyl-2-oxo-1 h-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-3(2h)-yl)cyclobutyl)carbamate (0.250 g, 0.743 mmol, 47.4% yield) as a white solid.
