3-Nitro-4-(4-o-tolyl-piperazin-1-yl)-benzoic acid (1.0 g, 2.9 mmol) was taken in methanol (100 mL) with sulphuric acid (1.0 mL) and reflux for 16 h. Concentrated and dissolved in ethyl acetate (300 mL) and washed the organic layer with a solution of satd. NaHCO3, dried and concentrated to give 0.37 g of 3-Nitro-4-(4-o-tolyl-piperazin-1-yl)-benzoic acid methyl ester.
