A suspension of 3-methoxy-2-nitropyridin (30 g, 194.8 mmol) and 10% Pd/C (10 g) in ethanol (1 L) was hydrogenated in a par hydrogenator (H2, 40 psi pressure) at RT for 4 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered through celite and the filtrate was concentrated to afford the title compound (22 g, 91%, brown solid). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ=7.66 (d, J=5.2 Hz; 1H), 6.91 (d, J=7.6 Hz, 1H), 6.63-6.60 (m, 1H), 4.65 (br, 2H), 3.84 (s, 3H) ppm.
