Procedure
6-chloro-1,5-naphthyridin-4-ol (1.45 g, 8 mmol) was added to ice-cooled conc. H2SO4 (15 mL) and followed by the addition of KNO3 (1.62 g, 16 mmol) slowly at 0° C. The mixture was heated to 100° C. for 1 h, and then was poured into ice-water. The precipitate was collected and dried in vacuo to afford 6-chloro-3-nitro-1,5-naphthyridin-4-ol as a solid in 90% yield (1.97 g).
