A solution of N′-(7-bromoquinoxalin-2-yl)-4-(2-cyanopropan-2-yl)benzohydrazide (2.2 g, 0.054 mol) in 3 mL of AcOH was stirred at 100° C. overnight. After cooling to room temperature, the reaction mixture was diluted with water (5 mL). The solid was collected on a filter, and washed with Sat. NaHCO3 (5 mL) to give 2-(4-(8-bromo-[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]quinoxalin-1-yl) phenyl)-2-methylpropanenitrile as a yellow solid (1.8 g, yield 85.0%). MS (m/z): 392 (M+H)+.
