Reaction Steps

To a solution of methyl (1S,2R,4R)-2-{[(benzyloxy)carbonyl]amino}-4-[(methylsulfonyl)oxy]cyclohexanecarboxylate (0.30 g, 0.78 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (2.6 mL) was added sodium azide (0.20 g, 3.1 mmol). The reaction was heated to 80° C. and stirred for 2.5 h. After cooling, the reaction mixture was poured into sat. NaHCO3/water and extracted with EtOAc (3 x). The combined extracts were washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4), and concentrated. The crude was purified on silica gel, eluting with 0-40% EtOAc in hexanes to give 187 mg (72%) of the desired product as a clear gum. LCMS calculated for C16H21N2O4 (M+H-28)+: m/z=305.2. Found: 305.1.
