Ethyl 1-[5-[7-(1-ethoxyvinyl)-2-(ethylcarbamoylamino)-1,3-benzothiazol-5-yl]pyrimidin-2-yl]-4-methyl-piperidine-4-carboxylate was dissolved in THF (24 mL) and water (6 mL). Sulfonic acid resin MP (200 mg, 3.2 mmol/g) was added and the reaction stirred at rt for 1 h, after which time LCMS indicated clean conversion to the ketone. The reaction mixture was filtered and the solvent removed in vacuo to give a solid which was triturated with Et2O to give the desired product as a yellow solid (600 mg, 64% yield over 2 steps).
