A mixture of (5-methyl-6-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)pyridin-3-yl)methanol (0.70 g, 3.18 mmol, Step-2), and thionyl chloride (0.46 mL, 6.36 mmol) in DCM (10 mL) is stirred at rt for 1 hour. The organic solvent is concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue is dried to give 0.75 g (>99% yield) of the title compound as white solid. This material is used for the next reaction (Step-4) without further purification.
