Procedure
From compound of example 1: to a suspension of N,N′-dibenzyl-1,2-diamino-1,2-dideoxy-D-mannopyranose (10 g) in methanol (30 ml) conc. HCl-solution (4 ml) was gradually added and the mixture was heated to 40° C. for 2-3 hours. The solvent was carefully evaporated, the residue was taken up in methanol and evaporated again 3-4 times. The resulting solid was suspended in ethanol and heated to reflux, the insoluble material was removed by hot filtration, and the filtrate was evaporated to dryness to yield the hydrochloride salt of N-benzyl-2-amino-2-deoxy-D-mannose.
