A suspension of 2,2-dimethyl-1-(pyrazin-2-yl)cyclopropanol (1 g, 6 mmol) and platinum oxide (150 mg; 0.66 mmol) in methanol (15 ml) was shaken under a 60 psi H2 pressure using a PARR hydrogenator for 24 hours. The suspension was filtered over a celite pad and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the title compound as a beige oil (1 g, 95%). 1H NMR (CD3OD) 0.90 (2H, s), 1.20-1.25 (6H, m), 2.45-2.50 (1H, m), 2.60-3.00 (5H, m), 3.30-3.40 (1H, m).
