To a solution of compound 5d (1.7 g, 7.3 mmol) in DCM (244 mL) was added manganese (IV) oxide (10 g, 116 mmol). The mixture was stirred at rt for 18 h, and filtered through a pad of diatomaceous earth. The filtrate was concentrated to give compound 5e as an off-white solid. 1H-NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ (ppm): 10.08 (s, 1H), 8.37 (s, 1H), 8.06 (d, J=5.6 Hz, 1H), 6.09 (d, J=5.6 Hz, 1H), 3.99-4.18 (m, 4H), 3.78-3.99 (m, 4H).
