Procedure

A solution of compound 59a (7.2 g, 28 mmol) in AcOH (30 mL) was treated with Br2 (8.8 g, 55 mmol). The resulting solution was stirred at 95° C. for 2 h. The resulting solution was allowed to cool to rt and treated with Et2O (50 mL). The solids formed were collected by filtration to obtain compound 59b as a yellow solid. Mass Spectrum (LCMS, ESI pos.): Calcd. for C8H5BrFN3O: 258.0 (M+H). Found: 258.0.
