380 μl of 1M boron tribromide solution in methylene chloride were added dropwise, at −78° C., to a solution of 55 mg of 5-(3-methoxyphenyl)-3-methyl-1H-pyrazolo[4,3-c]isoquinoline (3) in 3 ml of methylene chloride. The reaction solution was stirred at RT for 12 h, concentrated under reduced pressure and purified by means of HPLC (Merk-Hibar-Lichrospher 100-RP-18, water (0.1% trifluoroacetic acid)/acetonitrile (0.1% trifluoroacetic acid)=80/20→10/90).
