Reaction Steps

To a degassed solution of 1.5 g (5.1 mmol) of material from Example 1, 1.0 g (7.7 mmol) of thiophene-3-boronic acid and 1.1 g (7.7 mmol) of potassium carbonate in 30 mL of toluene was added 0.3 g (0.3 mmol) of tetrakis(triphenyl-phosphine)palladium(0). The mixture was heated to 100° C. for 4 hours, cooled to ambient temperature and diluted with 20 mL of ethyl acetate. The mixture was then washed once with water, and the organic portion was separated. The aqueous portion was extracted twice with ethyl acetate and the combined organics were dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo. Chromatography on 50 g silica gel (35% ethyl acetate/hexane) afforded a solid which was recrystallized from bromobutane, filtered and dried in vacuo at 60° C. to afford 0.4 g (27%) of the title compound.
