Procedure

To a solution of 0.5 g (1.4 mmol) of material from Example 132 in 5 mL of ethyl alcohol was added 0.05 g (1.4 mmol) of sodium borohydride. The mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 2 hr, concentrated in vacuo and then 10 mL of ethyl acetate and 10 mL of water was added. The organic layer was separated and the aqueous layer was extracted three times with 5 mL each of ethyl acetate. The combined organic extracts were dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo. Chromatography (40 g of silica gel, 50% ethyl acetate/hexane) of the residue afforded 0.3 g (65%) of the title compound.
