Procedure

A solution of 258A (4.50 g, 12.4 mmol) in methanol (124 mL) at room temperature was treated with 25% NaOMe in methanol (8.04 mL). This reaction mixture was heated to 50° C. for 3.0 hours, cooled to room temperature, and then concentrated in vacuo. The oily residue was dissolved in dichloromethane (200 mL), and washed with 20% NH4Cl (2×75 mL). The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash chromatography (10 to 25% EtOAc/hexanes) on silica gel to give 1.50 g (yield: 30%) of Compound 260A as an oil.
