6-Amino-8-fluoro-1-methyl-3,4-dihydro-1H-quinolin-2-one (Step 3, 2.25 g, 0.0116 mol), methyl (2R)-glycidate (1.18 g, 0.0116 mol) and lithium trifluoromethanesulfonate (1.81 g, 0.0116 mol) in acetonitrile (10 ml) are heated at 90° C. overnight. The reaction is concentrated and the residue diluted with ethyl acetate, washed with water and saline, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated. The residue is purified by flash column chromatography (50% ethyl acetate/hexane) to give the title compound as a yellow solid (2.13 g, 62%); MS (m/z): [M+H]+=297.
