PROCEDURE

A solution of 8 g (20 mmol) of the compound of step B in 50 mL of tetrahydrofuran (THF) was treated at °C. with 44.1 mL of 1.5M diisobutylaluminum hydride in toluene solution over a period of 5 minutes. The reaction was stirred for 2 hours at °C. and was then cautiously quenched with water. The product was extracted into ethyl acetate and dried and evaporated to give the title compound in 46% yield. 1H-NMR (CDCl3) δ1.04 (3H, t, J=7), 1.26 (3H, t, J=7), 2.44 (2H, q, J=7), 2.70 (2H, q, J=7), 4.54 (2H, s), 7.66 (2H, s).
