Reaction Steps
At room temperature, 4.0 g (9 mmol) of the (-)-5-undecyloxy-2-{4-(6-hydroxy-1-trans-heptenyl)-phenyl}-pyrimidine obtained in Example 14, 40 ml of methyl iodide and 6.3 g (27 mmol) of silver oxide were stirred for 40 hours. Then, the reaction mixture was washed with 1N hydrochloric acid and saturated aqueous solution of sodium chloride, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure. Purification of the residue by silica gel column chromatography gave 2.1 g (yield 52%) of (-)-5-undecyloxy-2-{4-(6-methoxy-1-trans-heptenyl)-phenyl}-pyrimidine, [α]D20 =-1.6 (c=1.0, CHCl3).
