Procedure

3.9 g (10 mmol) of benzyl α-carbamoyl-(5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-5,5,8,8-tetramethyl-2-naphthyl)acetate, 1.2 g of palladium on carbon (10%) and 100 ml of dioxane were introduced into a reactor. The mixture was hydrogenated at room temperature and at a pressure of 7 bar for 4 hours, filtered on celite and the filtrate evaporated to dryness. The residue obtained was taken up in the minimum amount of ethyl ether, filtered and dried. 2.2 g (76%) of the expected acid were recovered.
