Reaction Steps

To methyl 5-acetamido-3, 5-dideoxy-2-O-methyl-β-D-glycero-D-galacto-2-nonulopyranosonate (3.06 g, 9.07 mmol) was added 0.1N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (100 ml, 10.0 mmol) under ice cooling and then the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 22 hours. The reaction mixture was neutralized by addition of Dowex (50W×8, H+) resin. The resin was filtered off and the filtrate was concentrated to obtain sodium 5-acetamido-3, 5-dideoxy-2-O-methyl-β-D-glycero-D-galacto-2-nonulopyranosonate as an oil.
