0.1 g of the substituted benzyl alcohol of example 5 is dissolved in 10 ml of methylene chloride, mixed with 0.15 g of manganese dioxide and refluxed for 6 hours. After cooling, the reaction mixture is filtered on silica gel and concentrated by evaporation in a vacuum. The residue is distilled on a bulb tube, boiling point 200° C./0.03 mbar. 0.08 g of 4-[1-(1-imidazolyl)-butyl]-benzaldehyde is obtained.
