Procedure
2.9 g of the butyric acid derivative obtained were dissolved in 16 ml of 1N sodium hydroxide solution and, after the addition of a spatula tip of 5% Pd/C, hydrogenated at room temperature and normal pressure. The catalyst was filtered off and the filtrate was evaporated. There resulted 2.2 g of N-[3-amino-1-carboxypropyl]-iminodiacetic acid whose structure, NH2 --(CH2)2 --CH(COOH)--N(CH2COOH)2, was confirmed by the NMR spectrum.
