Procedure
The title ketone of Example 3 (1.0 g, 0.0032 mole) was dissolved in 10 ml of absolute ethanol and the solution cooled to about 0° C. in an ice bath and 31 mg of sodium borohydride was added. The reaction was stirred for about one hour and acetone was added. The solvents were removed in vacuo, the residue extracted twice with benzene, the organic extracts combined and dried over sodium sulfate. Removal of the solvent in vacuo gave the crude product which was chromatographed on silica to give the title compound.
