Reaction Steps

4-(3-(3-(2-Quinolinylmethyloxy)phenyl)propyl)benzonitrile (0.006 mol) with sodium azide (0.018 mol) and ammonium chloride (0.018 mol) in dimethylformamide (15 ml) is heated at 100° C. for 18 hours. The reaction mixture is poured into 10% aqueous sodium hydroxide solution and washed with ethyl acetate. The aqueous layer is acidified to pH 6 with 1 Naqueous HCl and the solid which precipitates is collected to obtain 5-(4-(3-(3-(2-quinolinylmethyloxy)phenyl)propyl)phenyl)tetrazole.
