The 3-(α-amino-4-methoxybenzyl)-4-methoxyphenylpropionic acid (1.0 g,3.17 mmol) prepared in Example 4 was dissolved in 5 ml of DMF containing triethylamine (0.88 ml). To the solution, 1.28 g of Fmoc-OSu was added andthe mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The solvent was evaporated in vacuo and 5% citric acid and ether were added to the residue. The resulting power was recrystallized from methanol and ether.
