A mixture of 4,35 g of ethyl 2-cyanoethyl(di-n-propyloxymethyl)phosphinate,10 g of ammonia and 2.3 g of Raney-Nickel :n 170 ml of ethanol is hydrogenated for 10.5 hours. The catalyst is filtered off and the solvent is removed by evaporation. The crude oil is purified by distillation to yield ethyl 3-aminopropyl(di-n-propyloxymethyl)phosphinate as a colourlessoil.
