Procedure
To a solution of compound 7 (2.2 g, 4.96 mmol) in dioxane (25 mL) was added a 3N sodium hydroxide solution (3.5 mL) and the mixture was heated to reflux for 3 h. Additional 3N sodium hydroxide solution (3.5 mL) was added and the mixture was heated to reflux for 16 h. The mixture was allowed to cool to rt and Boc-anhydride (3.24 g, 14.9 mmol) was added. The mixture was stirred for 24 h at rt, the solvent was evaporated, and the residue was partitioned between water and ethyl acetate. The organic phase was separated, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered, and evaporated. The residue was used without further purification.
