Procedure

To a solution of o-phenylenediamine (4 mmol) in DCM (20 mL) and pyridine (4 mL) at 0° C., 3,4-dichlorobenzenesulfonyl chloride (4.4 mmol) was added in small portions. The reaction mixture was then gradually warmed to RT with stirring continued until the reaction was complete as determined by TLC or LC-MS. The reaction mixture was then diluted with DCM (20 mL). The organic phase was washed with water (2×20 mL) and 20 mL of brine. The organic phase was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated under vacuum. The residue obtained was purified by flash column chromatography eluting with DCM/EtOAc to give 760 mg of N-(2-amino-phenyl)-3,4-dichloro-benzenesulfonamide. LC: Tr 0.98 min, MS: 317.0 (M+1)+; 1H NMR (CDCl3, 400 MHz): δ 4.95 (bs, 2H), 6.45 (t, 1H), 6.11 (d, 1H), 6.72 (d, 1H), 6.92 (t, 1H), 7.59 (dd, 1H), 7.80 (d, 3H) ppm.
