Procedure

1.0 g of (2-cyclopropylmethyl-3-oxo-6-trifluoromethyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-isoindol-1-yl)acetic acid ethyl ester were dissolved using 10 ml of ethanol and 3.5 ml of a 1 N aqueous solution of NaOH added. The mixture was stirred for 3 h at ambient temperature and then the solvent removed in vacuo. Afterwards, 30 ml of water were added and the pH of the solution adjusted to pH=2 using aqueous HCl-solution. The solution was then extracted three times using 50 ml of EA each. The organic layer was dried over MgSO4 and the solvent was removed in vacuo to yield 0.35 g of an amorphous solid (Rf(EA/MeOH 5:1)=0.43; MS (ES+): 314 (M+1)+).
