A mixture of 5-(4-Chlorophenyl)-N-methyl-8-nitro-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroiso-quinoline (3.47 g, 11.5 mmol), sulphuric acid (1 ml, 12 mmol), Raney nickel (1 ml, 50% slurry in water) and methanol (150 ml) was stirred under hydrogen for 1.5 h. The crude mixture was filtered through celite and was evaporated. Yield 3.2 g (90%). Mp 213-215° C.
