Following a procedure similar to that described in Example 17(c), 279 mg of 3-dimethylamino-1-{2-[4-(2-naphthyl)butyl]phenoxy}-2-propanol [prepared as described in step (b) above] were converted to the hydrochloride by passing it through a column packed with CM Sephadex C-25 (H+ type), to give 270 mg (yield 88%) of the title compound as a colorless oil.
