Reaction Steps
0.930 g of (R)-4-t-butoxycarbonyl-2-[2-(2-phenylethyl)phenoxymethyl]morpholine [prepared as described in step (a) above] was dissolved in 5 ml of dioxane, and 5 ml of a 4N solution of hydrogen chloride in dioxane was added to the solution, which was then allowed to stand at room temperature for 1 hour. At the end of this time, the mixture was concentrated by distillation under reduced pressure, and the resulting oil was dissolved in 25 ml of ethyl acetate and allowed to stand at room temperature. The crystals which precipitated were collected by filtration and dried in vacuo, to give 0.692 g (yield 89%) of the title compound as colorless crystals, melting at 150°-151° C.
