Reaction Steps
A solution of 3(R,S)-amino-5-cyclohexyl-1,3-dihydro-1-methyl-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one (1.0 g) in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran (20 ml) under an atmosphere of nitrogen at 0° C. was treated with triethylamine (0.51 ml), followed by a solution of 4-nitrophenyl chloroformate (0.75 g) in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran (10 ml) dropwise. After stirring at ambient temperature for 20 min, the solid which precipitated from the mixture was filtered and the filtrate was evaporated in vacuo. The residue was triturated with diethyl ether to give the title compound (1.2 g, 75%) as a colourless solid.
