Alkylation of 3′-hydroxy-acetophenone by bromomethylcyclohexane (2) was performed following the method given in Example 1. The product was purified by flash chromatography (5 to 30% EtOAc/hexane gradient) to give 1-(3-(cyclohexylmethoxy)phenyl)ethanone (103) as a colorless oil. Yield (3.17 g, 45%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 7.50 (dt, J=1.4, 6.3 Hz, 1H), 7.36-7.42 (m, 2H), 7.16 (ddd, J=1.0, 2.7, 8.2 Hz, 1H), 3.80 (d, J=6.3 Hz, 2H), 2.54 (s, 3H), 1.60-1.80 (m, 6H), 1.10-1.30 (m, 3H), 0.90-1.10 (m, 2H).
