Alkylation reaction of phenol 24 with methanesulfonic acid 5-benzyloxypentyl ester gave 2-(2-(3-(5-benzyloxypentoxy)phenoxy)ethyl)isoindoline-1,3-dione as yellow oil. Yield (1.0 g, 62%): 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.84-7.87 (m, 2H), 7.70-7.73 (m, 2H), 7.25-7.40 (m, 5H), 7.09-7.14 (m, 1H), 6.42-6.48 (m, 3H), 4.50 (s, 2H), 4.20 (t, J=5.8 Hz, 2H), 4.10 (t, J=5.6 Hz, 2H), 3.90 (t, J=6.4 Hz, 2H), 3.64 (t, J=6.0 Hz, 2H), 3.48 (t, J=6.0 Hz, 2H), 1.40-1.80 (m, 6H).
