Procedure
N-Bromosuccinimide (5.4 g, 0.03 mole) was added to a solution of VI (8.1 g, 0.03 mole) in CH3CN (150 mL) and the mixture stirred at room temperature. After 18 hours, the solution was evaporated to dryness in vacuo. The residue was partitioned between CHCl3 and H2O. Evaporation of the washed and dried CHCl3 extract under reduced pressure left 10.5 g (quant.) of VII; m.p. 104°-106° C. (CHCl3 --C6H14).
