To a solution of the title compound of Example 2 (43.1 g, 0.11 mole) in 100 ml of dioxane was added 100 ml of 6 M hydrogen chloride/dioxane. After about 30 min. the solution was concentrated in vacuo to dryness and the residue triturated thoroughly with diethyl ether. The solid was collected and washed well with diethyl ether, giving 34.7 g of the title compound, which was used in subsequent reactions without further purification.
