6.50 Grams (16.13 mol) of 1-cyclopropyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-8-methoxy-7-(4-amino-3,3-dimethyl-1-piperidinyl)-4-oxo-quinoline-3-carboxylic acid were suspended in 65 ml of isopropyl alcohol. The suspension was heated to 70-80° C. under stirring and then 1.90 g (19.79 mol) methanesulfonic acid was added. The reaction mixture was heated at reflux for 30 minutes. It was cooled to 30-35° C. and filtered. The solid was washed with 10 ml isopropyl alcohol and dried for 16 hrs in oven under vacuum at 50° C. to give 6.80 g (84%) titled compound, mp 286-290° C.,
