Procedure

A mixture of 5% Pd/C (200 mg) and 2-(1-azido-2-ethylbutyl)-1-benzyl-1H-imidazole (585 mg, 2.06 mmol) in methanol (25 mL) was shaken on a Parr apparatus for 1 h under 45 psi of H2. The mixture was filtered through a plug of Celite, washed well with methanol and concentrated in vacuo to yield the amine as an oil in 84% yield.
