Procedure
Palladium (5% on BaSO4) (0.5 g) was added to a degassed solution of the benzyl hydroxamate 56 (0.8 g) in MeOH (50 mL) and the suspension was treated with hydrogen at atmospheric pressure for 4 h. The suspension was filtered over a Celite® bed and concentrated to yield the desired hydroxamate 57 (0.2 g, 29%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6): 10.39 (br, 1H), 8.09 (d, J=9.6 Hz, 1H), 7.54 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H), 7.49 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H), 7.27 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H), 7.24 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H), 7.18 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H), 4.33 (m, 1H), 2.81-2.86 (m, 3H), 2.75 (s, 3H), 2.61-2.67 (m, 1H), 2.53 (s, 3H), 2.28 (s, 3H).
