3-(Benzyloxycarbonyl)amino-6-isopropyl-1-(tert-butoxycarbonylmethyl)-2-pyridinone (1.35, 3.37 mmol), as prepared in the preceding step, and 10% palladium (0) on activated carbon (0.12 g) were dissolved in methanol (50 mL), degassed, backfilled with nitrogen, and stirred under hydrogen gas at ambient pressure and temperature for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was then filtered through Celite and the filtrate evaporated giving the title compound as a golden oil, which was used without further purification.
