Sodium hydroxide solution (2.5 mL,2M, 5.1 mmol) was added to a solution of 2-(S)-[(5-chloro-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-c]pyridine-2-carbonyl)amino]-3-phenylpropionic acid ethyl ester (EXAMPLE 41, 940 mg, 2.5 mmol) in THF (30 mL) and the reaction mixture was stirred at rt for 16 h. The solvent was removed in vacuo and the solid partitioned between hydrochloric acid (2M, 40 mL) and ethyl acetate (3×40 mL). The combined organic fractions were dried (MgSO4) and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound as a yellow solid. m/z (ES+)=344 [M+H]+; RT=3.29 min.
