The title compound was prepared according to the procedure as set forth in Example 1 for the preparation of 3-(4-amino-phenyl)-isoxazol-5-carboxylic acid ethyl ester, except that 3-(3-nitro-phenyl)-isoxazole-5-carboxylic acid ethyl ester was used in place of 3-(4-nitro-phenyl)-isoxazole-5-carboxylic acid ethyl ester. The crude product was purified by flash chromatography with 15% EtOAc in light petroleum. Mass (ES+), 233 (M++1), 255 (M++Na); IR (KBr): 3460, 3369, 1727, 1615, 1431; 1H NMR (CDCl3) 1.43 (t, 3H), 3.83 (s, 2H), 4.45 (q, 2H), 6.78 (m, 1H), 7.13-7.19 (m, 4H).
