4′-Amino-6-methyl-N-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]biphenyl-3-carboxamide (0.26 g, 0.00070 mol) was mixed with 4-chloro-5-iodopyrimidine (0.17 g, 0.00070 mol) in ethanol (3.00 mL, 0.0514 mol) and the mixture was heated to reflux for 2 hours at which time LCMS analysis showed mainly product. To the reaction was added sat. Na2CO3 solution and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic extracts were washed with water, saturated NaCl, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated in vacuo. The concentrate was chromatographed on silica gel using 30% EtOAc/hexanes to give the product (178 mg, 44% yield). 1H NMR (CDCl3): δ□ 8.66 (s, 1H), 8.62 (s, 1H), 7.96 (m, 2H), 7.70-7.89 (m, 5H), 7.37-7.50 (m, 5H), 7.20 (s, 1H), 2.38 (s, 3H). MS (EI) m/z=575 (M+H).
