To a solution of (1-isopropyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)methanol (3.45 g, 24.61 mmol) in DCM (50 mL) was added thionyl chloride (5.386 mL, 73.83 mmol) at ambient temperature. The mixture was allowed to stir at ambient temperature for 18 hours. The mixture was concentrated under vacuum to afford 3-(chloromethyl)-1-isopropyl-1H-pyrazole hydrochloride (4.1 g, 85% yield) as a yellow gum.
