4-Methyl-pyridin-3-ylamine (1.98 g, 18.33 mmol) was added to solution of 1-chloro-2-isocyanato-2-methyl-propane (3 g, 20.40 mmol) in toluene (30 mL). The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 days. The reaction was monitored by TLC (5% MeOH in CHCl3). The reaction mixture was filtered and the residue was dried to afford 4.3 g of the product (87.75% yield).
