Instead of the starting material, that is, 4-chloro-2-nitrobenzoic acid, of Reference Example 6, 2-(benzyloxy)-4-chlorobenzoic acid was used for a similar procedure as in Reference Example 6 to obtain tert-butyl 2-(benzyloxy)-4-chlorobenzoate (compound S12a).
