Procedure
N-bromosuccinimide (352 mg, 1.98 mmol) was added to a solution of 4,6-dichloro-3-(4-(trifluoromethyl)benzyl)-3H-imidazo[4,5-c]pyridine (200 mg, 0.99 mmol) stirring in degassed chloroform (20 mL) at room temperature. The reaction was heated to reflux for 1 hour. The mixture was cooled to room temperature, diluted with dichloromethane, and washed with saturated aqueous sodium thiosulfate and brine. The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (0-100% ethyl acetate/hexanes, linear gradient) to afford 2-bromo-4,6-dichloro-3-(4-(trifluoromethyl)benzyl)-3H-imidazo[4,5-c]pyridine. MS APCl calc'd. for C14H7BrCl2F3N3 [M+H]+ 426. found 426.
