1-Chloroethyl chloroformate (18 μL, 0.16 mmol) was added to a solution of 1-benzhydryl-3-(benzofuran-3-yl)azetidine (52 mg, 0.15 mmol) in dichloromethane (1.5 mL) at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred for 15 minutes at 0° C. and for 4 hours at room temperature. An additional amount of 1-chloroethyl chloroformate (8 μL, 0.07 mmol) was added and stirring continued for 1 hour at room temperature. Ethanol (1.5 mL) was added and the reaction mixture was stirred for 3 days at room temperature. After concentration to dryness, the crude mixture was triturated in n-pentane (2×2 mL) to afford the title compound as a pink solid (42 mg, 130%) which was used without further purification.
